Advisor-led vs self-serve

Hotelminder vs the Cloudbeds Marketplace.

Hotelminder is an advisor-led shortlist of ten add-ons for boutique hotels on SiteMinder. The Cloudbeds Marketplace is a self-serve catalogue of hundreds of apps for hotels on the Cloudbeds platform. This is a comparison of two ecosystems shaped very differently — read only useful if you are actually choosing which core platform to sit on top of.

Hotelminder shortlist vs the Cloudbeds Marketplace

The core distinction

Cloudbeds is a full PMS plus channel manager plus booking engine in one platform, with a public marketplace of hundreds of add-on apps a hotel can install itself. SiteMinder is a channel manager plus booking engine plus reservations layer, with an ecosystem of add-ons on top — and Hotelminder is a specific advisor-led shortlist of ten of those add-ons, hand-picked and vetted on boutique properties before they enter the store.

The comparison below is not about which platform is better in the absolute sense — both are legitimate — but about the shape of ecosystem you are actually walking into on the day after the contract is signed.

Where the Cloudbeds Marketplace is stronger

If your operation is front-desk-heavy — deep folio splits, complex group blocks, extended-stay housekeeping rotations — Cloudbeds is the natural home and its PMS-first shape is genuinely well-fitted. The Cloudbeds Marketplace has depth in front-office workflows a distribution-first platform simply does not need to solve. The self-serve model also has a real advantage for hoteliers who prefer to try an app themselves without booking a call first; if that is the buying pattern that suits your team, the friction of an advisory-led shortlist will feel like overhead.

Cloudbeds also has a mature global vendor base, so if the property needs an integration into a Latin American payment method or a specific US accounting tool, the marketplace coverage there is broader than what a curated ten-module shortlist can offer.

Where Hotelminder + SiteMinder is stronger

Three things. First, boutique European fiscal edges — EU Fiscal Composer handles French mentions obligatoires, Italian fattura elettronica through the Sistema di Interscambio, German Beherbergungssteuer and Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch layouts on one module. Second, the advisory layer: a single named advisor who has worked on properties of similar size in Amsterdam, Vienna and Barcelona is the difference between a working stack in six weeks and a working stack in six months. Third, vendor count. A fully-loaded Cloudbeds Marketplace boutique commonly has eight vendors invoicing separately; a fully-loaded Hotelminder + SiteMinder boutique has two.

The shortlist size — ten modules — is a feature, not a limit. It means each module has been vetted on real paying boutique properties before it enters the store, and it means the advisory team can actually keep the whole shortlist in their head on a scoping call. A marketplace of hundreds cannot do that for you.

Pricing side-by-side, for a boutique of 30 rooms

A typical three-module stack on Hotelminder — Rate Reasoner (39 EUR/month) plus GuestJoy Concierge Expander (49 EUR/month) plus EU Fiscal Composer (39 EUR/month) — lands at 127 EUR/property/month, first month included with the onboarding pilot pack. The nearest equivalent on the Cloudbeds Marketplace — a rate-automation vendor plus a WhatsApp messaging vendor plus an EU-fiscal invoicing vendor — usually lands in the 180 to 320 EUR/property/month band depending on which vendors you pick, with self-serve installs and no unified advisor. Neither number includes the underlying platform subscription.

Migration between the two

Hotelminder does not migrate properties between platforms, and the shortlist only supports SiteMinder. If your property is on Cloudbeds today and happy there, this comparison is decision-support only — stay where you are and pick from the Cloudbeds Marketplace. If your property is on SiteMinder and thinking about switching, book a scoping call and we will give you our honest read; some boutique properties are genuinely better off on Cloudbeds, and the advisory answer sometimes is exactly that.

Making the call

If your top operational pain is front-desk workflow, look hard at Cloudbeds. If your top operational pain is EU distribution, direct booking performance, or country-correct invoicing across multiple markets, the Hotelminder shortlist on SiteMinder is where the ten modules earn their keep. If both pains are equal, the platform question should be decided before the add-on question — and that is a conversation worth having with an advisor before either card is signed.
