The comparison is not apples-to-apples — read carefully
Mews is a PMS platform with a broad, open marketplace of roughly a thousand integrations across every hospitality vertical. Hotelminder is a single advisory shop with a curated shortlist of ten modules built specifically for boutique hotels running SiteMinder. Comparing an ecosystem to a specialist is only fair once the shape difference is on the table. If you evaluate Hotelminder like a single Mews Marketplace app, we look narrow; if you evaluate the whole Mews Marketplace against the whole Hotelminder shortlist plus native SiteMinder, the comparison is closer to balanced.

Where Mews wins
Front-office operations, folio management and housekeeping. If the property's daily flow is heavily front-desk-centric — long check-in queues at reception, complex folio splits between corporate and leisure guests, group blocks with lots of moving pieces — Mews's PMS-first design fits naturally and its marketplace covers a wide range of specialised operations apps. The Mews Open API is famously well-designed as well; if the group has an in-house developer building custom integrations, the developer experience is excellent, and the marketplace's breadth means most third-party needs already have a vendor available.
Where Hotelminder + SiteMinder wins
Distribution-heavy boutique independents in Europe. Hotels where the top three problems are (1) rate optimisation with an explainable trail your night auditor can read into the morning briefing, (2) direct booking form performance on a boutique-editorial website, and (3) EU-specific tax and invoicing workflow across multiple countries. SiteMinder ships distribution-first primitives, and the Hotelminder shortlist rides on top of them with modules the advisory team has vetted on real 20 to 60-room properties in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Vienna, Milan and Lisbon.
The other quiet advantage is the shortlist size. Ten modules means one advisor can hold the whole store in their head on a scoping call, and one implementation guide covers every module the property will ever run. A marketplace of a thousand cannot do that — every install becomes its own decision, its own vendor relationship, its own onboarding path.
Pricing signal
Neither stack is clearly cheaper than the other at the base-platform level; Mews and SiteMinder sit in the same order-of-magnitude band. On the add-on layer, an average Mews Marketplace app tends to land in a similar per-property-per-month range as a Hotelminder module. What differs is the total vendor count and the total onboarding time. A fully-loaded Mews estate commonly has six to ten marketplace vendors billing separately with self-serve installs; a fully-loaded Hotelminder + SiteMinder estate has two vendors and a single advisor. That has real procurement and support implications for a boutique with a two-person office team.
Onboarding differences
Mews Marketplace installs are mostly self-serve — click install, authenticate, configure. That efficiency is real once your team knows what it is doing and is comfortable making integration decisions unaided. Hotelminder modules include human onboarding: a 30-minute scoping call before the pilot, an implementation guide written by the advisory team, and a named advisor who stays with the property through the first three months. Which model suits the property is a question of team maturity, not platform quality — a well-staffed 80-room boutique might prefer self-serve; a 22-room canal-side hotel with one General Manager wearing four hats usually prefers a named advisor.
Making the call
If your PMS-versus-distribution decision is genuinely open, Mews is stronger for front-desk-first operators and SiteMinder is stronger for distribution-first operators. Whichever platform you pick, put the specialised add-on layer on the platform that natively supports it. Trying to run Hotelminder modules against Mews would be worse than running native Mews Marketplace apps against Mews — which is exactly why the shortlist is SiteMinder-only. If you would like the honest read on your specific property shape before signing either core platform, book a scoping call with the advisory team.
